What native american tribe is the biggest in California?
Q. I am adopted and my birthmom said that I am part native american - but she said i am from the biggest (most popular) tribe. She didn't say which one since i am part - 5% but still it is really cool.

A. I would be very careful in accepting what is said, without it being clarified by actual records. For one thing.. NO ONE is 5% anything. The math does not work that way in genealogy. You are 50% of each parent. 25% of each grandparent. 12.5 % of each gr grandparent. 6.25% of any gr gr grandparent. it works like that simply because all ancestry is in factors of 1/2 from each parent but each parent is then defined by 1/2 of THEIR parents (and on back). Using the figure you gave, is a big indicator that this is info "passed down" but not verified by any records. Not saying you don't have NA background.. but genealogists know how critical it is that anything is documented. You would need the name of the exact ancestor, and a record to… [cont.]

Were Native American tribes in constant war prior to contact with the Europeans?
Q. Native American tribes such as the Iroquois and Huron were apparently at constant war. Were natives violent people? If not, what beliefs and ideas prevented from constant war? How did Europeans influence Native America warfare after contact?

A. We seem to have a view of Native Americans as peaceful one with nature human beings. They polluted just like any other human but they didn't have the same technology or ability to do it like the modern world. While they weren't savages as old westerns might portray them they weren't saints either. Tribes did war with each other. When settlers arrived and during the expansion of the US you see tribes allying themselves with the US in order to have an edge against rivals. The introduction of firearms was immense. If a tribe of Native Americans could trade for firearms again they had a step above others. I am currently taking a class on Technology and its influence on the US in college. How would I go about changing my ehtinicity to Native American?
Q. Question Details: My grandfather wanted to do this thing where his grandchildren could get some kind of blood test and if we had a certain amount of American Indian in their blood, we could change our ethnicity to Native American. But my mom didn't want to let me do it. Now my grandfather is gone ): and my mom now realizes that Native Americans can get college scholarships. So how would I change my ethnicity?

A. College scholarships for American Indians are reserved for members of US Federally Recognized Tribes. DNA is not used for tribal enrollment purposes. Instead, you will have to show direct descendancy from a person listed on a tribe's base roll and may have to meet a minimum blood quantum in order to become enrolled. Once enrolled, a person is only eligible to apply for these funding opportunities. These scholarships are competitive scholarships that go to only the top candidates. American Indians, like most everyone else, have to pay for college with a combination of funding sources which can include scholarships, grants, loans, etc.
