International adoption, or intercountry adoption, is a type of adoption in which an individual or couple becomes the legal and permanent parents of a child born in another country. In general, prospective adoptive parents must meet the legal adoption requirements of their country of residence and those of the country in which the child was born. The laws of different countries vary in their willingness to allow international adoptions. Some countries, such as China and Korea, have relatively well-established rules and procedures for international adoptions, while other countries expressly forbid it. Some countries, notably many African nations, have extended residency requirements for adoptive parents that in effect rule out most international adoptions. From Wikipedia under the

Be very aware that there have been a heap of dogdy adoptions happening over in India. Here is a website with loads of important information - Answered by Possum - Sun Aug 24 09:00:44 2008 Is there any international adoption agencies that work with older parents? Q. On every site I look the age limits are different for Kazakhstan! And I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on agencies. Asked by unknown - Sat Jan 10 18:30:21 2009 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments A. The requirements for international adoption are set by the country in question. This includes things like age, marital status, infertility, number of children in the family, sexual orientation, etc etc etc. That said, agencies can also set their own requirements as long as it doesn't conflict with those of the country. Example: Country A might require adoptive parents to be between the ages of 25-50. But the agency might say that they will only work with couples over the age of 30. Check the US state department website for Kazakhstan's requirements. It states the parents must be no older than 60.
