GermanWikipedia has an article on: AdoptionNounAdoption f. (genitive Adoption, plural Adoptionen)
From Wiktionary under the GNU Free Documentation License. Adoption is a process whereby a person assumes the parenting for another who is not kin and, in so doing, permanently transfers all rights and responsibilities from the original parent or parents. Unlike guardianship or other systems designed for the care of the young, adoption is intended to effect a permanent change in status and as such requires societal recognition, either through legal or religious sanction. Historically some societies have enacted specific laws governing adoption whereas others have endeavored to achieve adoption through less formal means, notably via contracts that specified inheritance rights and parental responsibilities. Modern systems of adoption, arising in the 20th century, tend to be governed by comprehensive statutes and regulations. Adoption has a long history in the Western world, closely tied with the legacy of the Roman Empire and the Catholic Church. Its use has changed considerably over the centuries with its focus shifting from adult adoption and inheritance issues toward children and family creation and its structure moving from a recognition of continuity between the adopted and kin toward allowing relationships of lessened intensity. I'm curious, people mention adoption disruption but do people really know what that is and why it's different from an adoption dissolution? I would guess thar first you'd have to go to school to be a social worker of some sort and they would probably have all that info. Your guidance counselor at college would probable be a good place to start. Answered by mom of many - Fri Jul 3 16:33:16 2009 What do you think about adoption fundraising?
Q. My husband and I would like to adopt. We are foster parents and really want to adopt through the state. However, we would also like to adopt an infant. Of course, adoption is expensive. We can afford to care for our child/children, but we don't have 20,000+ sitting around. Many people fundraise to make up for the difference, but many people I have discussed this with have not been very supportive of the idea. Do they think it is rude? (I am making items to sell and that type of thing. I don't just expect people to give us money so we can adopt.) Any thoughts? Also, has anyone else tried to fundraise for adoption? Thanks for all the feedback so far. I'd love to hear more! By the way, I would never use the money for something… [cont.] Asked by Richelle78 - Tue Jun 19 20:31:09 2007 - - 9 Answers - 0 Comments A. My wife and I made the decision when we got married that we would only expand our family through adoption. In 2004 we completed a Chinese adoption. We're now over halfway through our 2nd Chinese adoption. The first time we did not do a lot of fundraising. This second time we have. Here's my advice. First, be sure you want to face the public eye. I used any time I went out with my rubber ducks (yes, I purchased rubber duckies to sell as Duckies for Jenny) as an opportunity to talk to people about adopting as an option. I never hid the fact that I was pursuing a foreign adoption. This resulted in some resentment. I've endured a lot... "why adopt some foreign kid when there are plenty over here?" ((truth of the matter, our system… [cont.] Answered by sir_galahad_ks - Fri Jun 22 10:27:16 2007 From Yahoo Answer Search: "Adoption" From Wikiquote under the GNU Free Documentation License.
